Dr. Omar El-Gayar, Professor of Information Systems, Dakota State University

Omar F. El-Gayar, Ph.D. is a distinguished higher education administrator and accomplished researcher, renowned for his contributions to computing education, information technology, and artificial intelligence (AI). Currently a Professor of Information Systems at Dakota State University, Dr. El-Gayar's career spans several key administrative roles, including Dean of the College of Information Technology at the United Arab Emirates University and founding Dean for Graduate Studies and Research at Dakota State University. Dr. El-Gayar's research interests include analytics, business intelligence, and decision support with applications in domains such as healthcare, environmental management, and security planning and management. His interdisciplinary educational background and training include information technology, computer science, economics, and operations research. Dr. El-Gayar’s industry experience includes working as an analyst, modeler, and programmer. His numerous publications have appeared in various fields related to information technology. Dr. El-Gayar serves as a peer and program evaluator for accrediting agencies such as the Higher Learning Commission (an institutional accreditor operating primarily Central United States) and ABET’s Computing Accreditation Commission (program accreditor for many computing programs, in the US and worldwide). He has also served as a panelist for the National Science Foundation, and a reviewer for numerous journals and conferences. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the IEEE Computer Society and the ACM.
